英译时对应的词语有：on、about。

1. 那位工程师所解释的都是有关下一次化学实验的题材。

What that engineer explained was about the subject matter of the next experiment on chemistry. 

(介词about表示“关于”，常指一般事物。)

2. 他们认真学习了他的那篇关于水污染的论文。

They studied conscientiously his treaties on water pollution. 

(介词on表示“关于”，指某种专业或专题。)

除非

翻译时对应的词语是：unless。

1. 除非坏天气作梗，我每天都慢跑。

Unless bad weather stops me，I jog everyday. 

2. 车床不会运转灵活，除非把它很好擦油。

A lathe will not run smoothly unless it is well greased. 

(unless在句中引导状语从句，表示“条件”，比 if...not略为正式，其后通常不用虚拟式。)
