Sizhou Opera, originally called Lahunqiang Opera, is one of the four great opera genres in Anhui Province. It is popular in the riverside area of Huaihe River in Anhui Province, and so far it has been in existence for over 200 years. In the performance, its tune is fairly free and its performance is barely affected by the conventionized form. This opera has a rich cultural tradition and a mass appeal thanks to its strong flavor of rural life in Northern Anhui Province. In 2006, Sizhou Opera was included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
