郭守敬

Guo Shoujing

Guo Shoujing (1231-1316), whose courtesy name was Ruosi, native of Xingtai, Shunde, was a famous astronomer, mathematician and expert on water conservacy in the Yuan Dynasty. In 1276, Guo Shoujing began to revise the new calendar and spent four years in working out the Shoushi Calendar which was in use for over 360 years as the most advanced calendar in the world. His diligent and assiduous work contributed to his remarkable achievements in astronomy, calendar, water conservacy and mathematics.
