Liu Bang, Emperor Gaozu of Han (256BC—195BC) was the first emperor of the Han Dynasty. Soon after the rise of Chen Sheng against the ruling of the Qin Dynasty, he assembled 3,000 men in response. He was cast as the King of Han after the Feast at Hong Gate to govern the regions in Sichuan and Hanzhong (Shaanxi). He reunified the country by defeating Xiang Yu. In 202BC, he chose Chang’an as the capital of the regime, which was historically called the “Western Han Dynasty”.
