第一节(共20小题,每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出最佳选项。
A
It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars,Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor,he returned to find his bike gone.
The bike,a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries, saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.
I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, and then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.
People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are evenmore so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity(人性)as a whole. And it has influenced us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small,an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.
31.Why was the bike so important to the couple?
A. The man’s job was bike racing. B. It was their only possession.
C.It was a nice Kona 18 speed D. They used it for work and daily life
32.We can infer from the passage that .
A. the couple worked 60 hours a week B. people were busy before Christmas
C. the stranger brought over the bike D. life was hard for the young family
33.How did people get to know the couple’s problem?
A. From radio broadcasts. B. From a newspaper.
C. From TV news. D. From a stranger.
34.What do the couple learn from their experience?

C. News reports make people famous. D. An act of kindness can mean a lot.

There are many ways to find a job. It can be as easy as walking into a neighborhood store to look at its announcement board. Local stores often have areas where people can put small signs telling what kind of service they need or can provide. Such services include caring for children or cleaning houses.
Or, job searchers can look in the newspaper. Local newspapers have employment announcem-
ents placed by companies seeking workers.
Another popular tool for finding jobs is the Internet. For example, people in four hundred and fifty cities around the world can use the Craigslist Web site to buy objects, meet people or find a job. Craigslist says that it receives two million new job listings each month.
Another useful way to find a job is through a college or university. For example, students at the University of Texas in Austin can go to the Career Exploration Center to get help in finding a job. Of course, looking for a job requires knowing what kind of work you want to do. For example, there is a book called "What Color is Your Parachute?" by Richard Bolles. This book bas been helping people choose a career since it was first published in 1970.
Some experts also help people find jobs. Susan W. Miller owns a company called California Career Services in Los Angeles. She says her company helps people find jobs by first helping them understand their strengths, goals and interests. Then she provides them with methods and resources to help them find the right job.
35. What is the passage mainly talking about?

Many of the world’s countries have reached or are approaching zero population growth(ZPG). Nearly all such lands are economically well developed. They include much of Europe (including Russia),the United States, Canada,Japan, and Australia. As the rate of natural increase (RNI)declines, two things happen. First, the population begins to decline if the loss is not balanced by immigration. Second, a country’s population ages because there are fewer births.
Is achieving ZPG good or bad? What happens when country’s population begins to drop? Many people, after all, believe that population decline is a good thing. But is it good for everyone? Does everyone agree?
An aging population can create many problems. Senior citizens require more health care and medical attention. Rather than paying into retirement programs, they begin to draw from their pensions(退休金). In the US, the Social Security program, according to many experts, will be used up by 2018. It will pay out more money than it takes in. Additionally,a great number of jobs go begging in search of people willing or able to do them. Many of these jobs are entry-level positions that pay low wages. With an aging population, who will fill them? At the other extreme, some positions require a large number of training and highly specialized skills. Who will fill these positions as retirees leave the workforce?
The answer to the problem of declining and aging population is simple: increased migration. Today many people ,particularly those from less developed countries, are migrating in search of employment. Many are willing to take jobs that cannot (or will not) be filled by the domestic population. Others are well educated and highly skilled. Both groups contribute to a country’s economy progress in many ways. Further, they add to the richness of a country’s culture.Of greatest importance, perhaps is the fact that they have become absolutely necessary to the economy of many lands. As you can see, for many countries and for most immigrants, migration is a win-win situation.
43.In the writer’s view, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Achieving ZPG is good for senior citizens.
B. Achieving ZPG is every country’s aim despite its side effects.
C. Not everyone agrees that achieving ZPG is absolutely good.
D. Achieving ZPG is good for government.
44. According to the passage, the best way to solve the problem of declining and aging population is
A. to improve the health care system B. to increase migration
C. to increase employment D. to increase RNI
45. The underlined words "the domestic population" can be replaced by
A. people within the country B. people without a college education
C. people from developing countries D. people living abroad
46. The main idea of the last paragraph is
A. how to increase migration B. the problem of declining and aging population
C. the advantages of increased migration D. some ways to enrich a country’s culture

Here’s something to think about the next time you ask your teacher tor help: struggling with schoolwork on your own can help you learn. According to a recent study, the more you struggle while you are learning new information, the better you can remember it later.
This theory might surprise you. When teachers are presenting new information, they often give students lots of help. But a new study shows this may not be the best way to support learning. “Don’t be too quick to get help when learning something new,” education expert Manu Kapur told TFK.“Try to work on it yourself even if it means trying different ways.”
Kapur came up with the idea that struggling can lead to better learning. Then he tested it out on students in Singapore. He separated students into two groups. In the first group, students were asked to solve math problems with the teacher’s help. In the second group, students were asked to solve the same problems by helping one another, instead of getting help from the teacher.
With the teacher’s help, students in the first group were able to find the correct answers. Students in the second group did not solve the problems correctly, but they did come up with a lot of good ideas.
The students were then tested on what they had learned. The group without any help from a teacher scored much higher than the group who had help. Kapur said working on their own to find the answers helped students understand the process, not just the solution.
Kapur’s advice for kids is to put a lot of effort into learning something new rather than going to your teacher for help. “Simply doing a little work or nothing at all won’t work,” says Kapur. “The struggle needs to be a real attempt to figure out or solve a problem in as many ways as possible.”
47. According to the passage, the best way to learn may be
A. to figure something out on your own B. to ask teachers for help in time
C. to be given the solution to the problem D. to pay little attention to the process
48. Kapur supported his idea by
A. analyzing cases B. describing an activity
C.making a test D. introducing a method
49. In the last paragraph, Kapur advised students to
A. make efforts to win help from others B. use their head in an active way
C. make an attempt at something new D. solve every possible problem with others’ help
50. Which might be the most suitable title for the passage?
A. Raise your head B. Try your hands
C. Stand on your own feet D. Work your mind

I have a friend who had financial problems and needed my help occasionally.
He was in his final year in University while I was in my third year. He needed some money for school fees and other academic purposes, and he came to me. Being a student, ______,but I gave him what he needed on the agreement that he would pay back. I didn’t bother him after that. I never asked when he’d pay back.
Later on,after he finished school,he got into another period of deep financial stress and called me on the phone. He asked to borrow some more money, promising that he’d pay all of it back once he landed a job. Out of kindness,I still gave him the exact amount he needed, which was twice the amount I had given him initially. He was so grateful. It’s so hard to find someone willing to lend you that amount of money, even with interest.
Fast forward a few months later. One evening,I was feeling happy and love filled my heart. I felt like performing a special act of kindness. And then I thought,“Why not cancel my friend’s debt? Things are so difficult for him,you know? ”So I called him up and told him I had canceled his debt. He was shocked! He couldn’t believe it. He was so happy and later sent me a message of heart-felt gratitude.
Me too! And I felt grateful for his gratitude.
In life,it is the small but powerful actions of love that matter. When life is over, that’s what counts.

七、书面表达
One possible version:
I have your attention please?
I’m glad to talk about my plan for the last one hundred days before the college entrance examination.
First of all, as a senior student of high school, studying is our most important task. I will focus myself on how to improve the efficiency of my study and how to improve my different skills, especially the ability to solve problems. Secondly, I should reasonably arrange my daily life. I’m going to get up at about six every morning and go to bed at half past ten at night and have noon break for an hour so that I have enough energy for my studies every day. Besides, I will have sports for at least an hour to build up my body. Then, I will watch TV or listen to music for a short time, which can relax myself and relieve my stress from hard study every day.
I hope my schedule can help me perform well in the coming college entrance examination.
Thank you !
