III 阅读(共两节,满分40分)
第一节 阅读理解(共15小题, 每小题2分,满分30分)
A
Here we are, afraid of losing what we have all the time, holding on to it so tight that not a soul can touch it. We think by hiding it from the world, it’ s hidden and it’ s ours. Nothing is. Nothing ever will be. For, nothing ever was.
If you think there is anything that you have, that’ s yours, be it money, a house, a job, or a girlfriend … it’s nothing but an illusion. It’ll all disappear … in one blow.
One blow, my man.
Here we are, so insecure that we are afraid of re-starting our lives, so we just carry on trying to sort out the current mess. The thought that we should give it all up and just start all over—with nothing—might cross our minds some time, sure, but we get scared and we push away anything that scares us.
There is nothing I can ever achieve or gain that I cannot lose, in a matter of seconds. You have never gained enough to not be able to lose it all, in just a few minutes. What you think is yours, was never yours and will never be yours. Whatever you make here, you leave here. You came naked and you’re going to go back naked.
So what are you afraid of?
Let all be lost. Let them take away everything. As long as you have your heart beating strong, as long as you have your nostrils(鼻孔) working fine, as long as the blood flows in your veins, you will live, you will breathe and you can get it all back… again and again. For, if you can do it once, you can damn well do it again. It’ s just a game we play—Life.

They can run all day, they never complain and if they demand a pay rise you can just remove their batteries: many Premiership managers must dream of having a robotic( 机器人的) football player.
In fact, robotics researchers believe that by 2050 a robotic football team will take to the field that will be able to defeat the current human world champions.
It’s an ambitious goal which sounds more like science fiction than reality—but the
plan to develop the robotic equivalent of Brazil is already well on its way.
This week, teams of robots from all over the world are taking part in Robocup 2007 – the robotic football World Cup.
This year the event is taking place at Georgia Tech University in the US for the biggest ever demonstration of robotic footballing prowess.
While they might not have the guile or pace of Wayne Rooney just yet, scorelines that stretched into double figures proves that these robo-soccer stars certainly have a grasp of the game’ s fundamentals.
The groups ranged from the "Humanoid League" right through to robots so small they can only be seen with a microscope in the inaugural "Nano-Cup".
For robots to play football, various technologies have been developed including artificial intelligence so the robots know who to pass to and how best to defeat an opponent as well as sophisticated robotics and sensors. After the fun and games of the RoboCup is over, the technologies developed for scoring winning goals is then transferred to a number of other more useful applications such as developing robots that can be used in search and rescue in large scale disaster.

Can people change their skin colour without suffering like pop king Michael Jackson? Perhaps yes. Scientists have found the gene that determines skin colour.
The gene comes in two versions, one of which is found in 99 percent of Europeans. The other is found in 93 to 100 percent of Africans, researchers at Pennsylvania State University report in the latest issue of Science.
Scientists have changed the colour of a dark-striped zebrafish to uniform gold by inserting a version of the pigment gene (含有色素的基因)into a young fish. As with humans, zebrafish skin colour is determined by pigment cells(色素细胞), which contain melanosomes(黑色素). The number, size and darkness of melanosomes per pigment cell determines skin colour.
It appears that, like the golden zebrafish, light-skinned Europeans also have a mutation(变异) in the gene for melanosome production. This results in less pigmented skin.
However, Keith Cheng, leader of the research team, points out that the mutation is different in human and zebrafish genes.
Humans acquired dark skin in Africa about I. 5 million years ago to protect bodies from ultra-violet rays of the sun( 太阳光紫外线) , which can cause skin cancer.
But when modern humans leave Africa to live in northern latitudes, they need more sunlight on their skin to produce vitamin D. So the related gene changes, according to Cheng.
The new discovery could lead to medical treatments for skin cancer. It also could lead to research into ways to change skin colour without damaging it like the chemical treatment did on Michael Jackson.
51. The passage mainly tells us that__________________.
A. people can now change their skin colour without any pain
B. the new discovery could lead to research into ways to change skin colour safely
C. pop king Michael Jackson often changed his skin colour as he liked
D. scientists have found out that people’ s skin colour is determined by the gene
52. It can be inferred from the passage that_______________.
A. nowadays people who want to change their skin colour have to suffer a lot from the damage caused by the chemical treatment
B. Europeans and Africans have the same gene
C. the new discovery could help to find medical treatments for skin cancer
D. there are two kinds of genes
53. Scientists have done an experiment on a dark-striped zebratlsh in order to ______
A. find the different genes of humans’
B. prove that humans’ skin colour is determined by the pigment gene
C. find out the reason that the Africans’ skin colour is dark
D. find out the ways of changing people’ s skin colour
54. The reason why Europeans are light-skinned is probably that
A. they are born light-skinned people
B. light-skinned Europeans have a mutation(变异) in the gene for melanosome production
C. they have less activities outside
D. they pay much attention to protecting their skin
