KATHMANDU, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Central Nepal district Dolakha's government issued curfew order on Sunday following clashes between the police and the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist)-aligned Young Communist League (YCL) activists.

The curfew imposed in Charikot, some 60 km east of capital Kathmandu, is from 5:30 p.m. (1145 GMT) Sunday till 5:00 a.m. Monday (2315 GMT Sunday).

YCL activists clashed with police and vandalized the district administration office (DAO) in Charikot during a demonstration against the prosecution of a local CPN-M leader Sunday.

CPN-M district leader Bishal Khadka is facing a case for publicly insulting Rastriya Prajatratra Party leader Sundar PrasadKhadka few days ago.

According to leading website nepalnews.com, the YCL activists manhandled chief district officer (CDO) Huta Bahadur Thapa and assistant CDO Uddab Prasad Paneru. Two dozen YCL activists and at least 10 policemen were injured in the clash.

Charikot remained tense following the confrontation between the YCL activists and police. Vehicles remained off the road and shops in main marketplaces were closed soon after the YCL protest started.

CPN-M youth organization, YCL is formed in last December, after the Comprehensive Peace Accord between the then ruling Seven-party Alliance government and CPN-M was signed in last November.
