WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Senate passed a non-binding bill on Wednesday calling for limiting the power of Iraq's federal government and give more control to Iraq's ethnically divided regions, U.S. media reported.

The bill, cosponsored by Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del. and Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., was passed with a vote of 75-23. The bill advocates establishing a power-sharing agreement among ethnic factions similar to the one established in Bosnia in the 1990s.

However, the Bush administration is unlikely to alter its policy on Iraq as it has urged the Iraqi government to establish a national unity government and has rejected the idea of dividing Iraq, according to ethnic factions.
