Media coverage of "leftover men and women" has been widespread in China over the years, raising concerns over this increasingly serious social problem. New phrases like "leftover girls" and "leftover boys" are entering the modern lexicon, referring to women and men in their late 20s or early 30s who are still single. A new report released by China’ s top health authority has once again highlighted the issue.
According to a survey, 21.6% of the leftover men and women are subject to long-term pres- sures from the society and themselves. According to the report, China’ s "leftover" men and women, as unmarried denizens aged over 30 or so are charmingly called, face significant health risks.
The Report on Chinese Family Development 2015 was released by the National Health and Family Planning Commission, who conducted a survey of almost 32,500 households. The result shows that against the backdrop of population migration and big differences between urban and rural areas, unmarried men of all ages are largely limited to the countryside, while unmarried women are concentrated in urban areas.
The report also reveals the trend that an increasing number of men marry women much younger than they are, and that they prefer women in rural areas. This is because it is difficult to find a spouse of their age or in their cities. In some impoverished areas, two percent of the men over 50 years old are still single.
Interestingly, statistics also show that the number of single women in cities who are over 30 is much higher than that in the countryside, because the former group is usually well-educated, more financially independent, and prefers career development to marriage.
THIS IS THE END OF THE TEST.

There has been a wide concern about the issue of“leftover men and women”in China.which has became a serious social problem.Over quar- ter of the left over men and women are under great pressure from outside. The research shows that there is a big difference between the cities and countries concerning tO the leftover men and women. Most single men re- side in the rural areas. Meanwhile。 urban regions account for the large amount of single women.
The reason for this phenomenon is that women who work and live in the big cities ale well.educated and have high salary, thus, they would mth- er to put more attention on their careers rather than on their relationships with men.
In my opinion, society should not give too much pressure tO leftover men and women for marriage is a personal affair and others should not give comments to it.As the saying goes:“A mail who drank it knows whether the water Was cold or waHn.”If they meet their spouse,I think they will get married soon.

You might think that good-looking men have every advantage in life.
But new study suggests being handsome may not always work in a man’ s favour—at least when it comes to his career.
The research claims that attractive men are less likely to be given a job in a competitive work- place because they intimidate bosses. "It’ s not always an advantage to be pretty," says Marko Pite- sa, an assistant professor at the University of Maryland. "It can backfire if you are perceived as a threat. "
Interestingly, in Pitesa’ s study, it was male attractiveness in particular, rather than female beauty, that made the most difference. If the interviewer expected to work with the candidate as part of a team, then he preferred goodlooking men. However, if the interviewer saw the candidate as a potential competitor, the interviewer discriminated in favour of unattractive men.
"l——he results suggest that interviewers were not blinded by beauty, and instead calculated which candidate would further their own career.
"The dominant theoretical perspective in the social sciences for several decades has been that biases and discrimination are caused by irrational prejudice," Pitesa says.
"The way we explain it here, pretty men just seem more competent, so it is actually subjec- tively rational to discriminate for or against them. "
On a deeper level, she adds, the behaviour remains irrational, since there’ s no evidence that a real link exists between looks and comoetence.

There might be a common view that good—looking people can take ad- vantages of their superior appearances in the daily life, especially for the preRy men in the job hunting market. However, according to a new research, good appearance is no longer been the silver bullet in a job inter-view.
The results showed that although there Was still a preference to cooperate with the attractive man and compete against the unattractive mall, and did not mind to work with them. However, people were not likely to pick a goodlooking man as their potential competitors.
In my opinion,we should not depend ourselves on our appearance in terms of job hunting.
Good appearance may bring US some benefits, but what is highly valued in the job market is our talents and abilities.

It’s the graduation season again. According to a latest survey, most Chinese graduates have high salary expectations, and thus prefer working for foreign companies or state-owned enterprises in first-tier cities.
The survey was conducted by renren.com, a Chinese social media site similar to Facebook. The results show that among 1,510 respondents, more than 64.7 percent want to work in first-tier cities.
In addition, 29.4 percent of the graduates who were born in the 1990s want to work for foreign companies, 25.5 percent for SOEs and 23.5 percent for private companies.
One interesting revelation is that although there are less than 100 days before graduation and more than half of the respondents have yet to get a job offer, they are not lowering their salary expectations. Apparently, 41.2 percent aim for 8000-10000 yuan ( $1279- $1599) per month and 31.4 percent for 4000-6000 yuan.
According to the data released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the average monthly salary in Beijing was 5826 yuan( $ 931 ) last year, while the numbers for Shanghai, Tianjin and Chongqing were 5380, 4058 and 3995 yuan respectively.
A sample of comments in Weibo: "Are the survey results only jokes for April Fools’ Day? Don’ t daydream anymore! Please check if you have a good command of English and professional skills that deserve a decent job with a high pay. " On other comments says:" Some of my classmates got offers from foreign banks, international accounting firms and other famous foreign companies. They are told their yearly salary can reach 100,000 yuan ( $15,990). "

A salvey recently conducted by a Chinese website shows that college students in China have high expectation for the salaries and other job condi- dons after graduation.
It is clear in in the survey that Chinese students expect to earn high salary and work in the metropolis even in the first year after graduation. But to their disappointment.me real average salary in big cities are far lower than their expectations’according to the statistics. Moreover, the number of students who already got job offers not very long before graduation is less than half.
People ale shocked by this suryey.According to the comnlents in Weibo, many people hold the opinion that most college students ale not realistic and know little about the real status out of tho campus.
In my opinion.as an undergraduate student, what I Can do is to ann myself with professional qualities facing the severe and competitive job market.

Beijing has extended its ban on operating outdoor barbecues from the city center outward to selected suburbs, according to municipal authorities.
A year ago, Beijing banned restaurants from operating outdoor barbecues within the fourth ring road area. And now, the ban has extended to several suburbs, including Mentougou, Fangs- han, Tongzhou, Shunyi, Daxing, Pinggu and Miyun.
The barbecue ban was announced to reduce Beijing’ s air pollution, as barbecue has long been accused as one of the major contributors to haze.
According to Wang Yuesi, a researcher from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics in Chinese Academy of Sciences, barbecuing can generate a lot of PM 2.5, harmful airborne particles measur- ing less than 2.5 microns in diameter.
"Considering the seriousness of the air pollution in Beijing, we have to ban everything that may do harm to our environment!" Wang said.
The issue has divided Chinese netizens, as half agreed with the policy while the other half called this grand plan nothing but "empty talk. "
A sample of comments from Weibo:" Why don’ t those petrochemical plants, power stations and other heavy industries be banned? What is the Ministry of Environmental Protection going to do next? We still need to eat, so please allow us to cook!"
"Right decisions to resolve PM2.5 pollution problems, the option which made by governors is legalistic reserve for ’pubhc profits’ courses," some people said.

Beijing has released many rules and policies to deal with the most eyecatching environmental issues now--smog. Recently, a new regulation was announced that the region of banning of outdoor barbecues is going to be ex- tended from the downtown to countryside.
The government claims barbecue causes great air pollution and is the major culprit of environmentally harmful substances to the air which meet that standard of PM 2.5.
This policy caused great controversy among the citizens in those areas. Some advocates are willing to give up their rights of enjoying the outdoor barbecue, in order to make contribution to the environment. But the others tagged this policy as "empty talk", as they are more concerned about the pollution from the chemical toxins from the heavy industries.
In my opinion, it is essential to take some steps to protect the environment in Beijing. We should support it ff this measure show the function that keeps the air cleaner. What is more, to eat less barbecue is not a bad idea, as barbecue is not healthy.
