(三)条件关系

    汉语中表示条件关系的常用关联词有：只有…才能、只要…就、除非…不、无论…都、不管…，等等。在译成英语时可用only…if、no matter how、whatever等词语或通过其它搭配来表达。

1. 我们只有把这个车间腾出来，才能安放这台机器。

    Only by emptying this workshop，it is possible for us to house this machine. 

    (译成英语简单句，用only和 it is possible来表达条件关系。)

2. 他下定决心，不管碰到什么困难都要坚持做这项工作。

He was determined to hold on to this job whatever difficulties he might run into. 

    (译成英语主从句，原文“不管…”用whatever引导的条件从句译出。)

    3. 无论你是否喜欢，你都要遵守规则。

    Whether you like them or not，you must follow the rules

    (译成英语主从句，原文“无论…”用whether引导的从句表达，说明原文中的“无条件”意义。)

  (四)因果关系

    汉语中说明因果关系常用的关联词有：因为…所以、由于…因而、因此、所以、以致、可见，等等。翻译成英语时可用because、as、since、so that、and therefore、hence、so(such)…that等词语表达。

1. 因为合金的特性比纯金属要好得多，所以它在工业上得到广泛应用。

Alloys find wide application in industry because their properties are much better than pure metals. 

(译成英语主从句，用because引导原因状语从句，可以“因”在前，“果”在后，也可以“果”在前，“因”在后。)

2. 这附近有许多大的工厂，所以空气受到烟尘的严重污染。

There stand so many big factories nearby that air is seriously polluted by smoke. 

(译成英语主从句，用s。…that结构译出“因果关系”，因在前，果在后。)

3. 海水的成分在化学工业中有很大用途，因为它是一种混合物。

The components of sea water are of great use in chemistry industry owing to its being a mixture. 

    (译成英语简单句，用介词短语owing to…表示原因。)
