连贯关系

汉语表示连贯关系的关联词有：接着、然后、于是、又、便，等等。翻译时相应的词语有：and、and then等等。

1. 我顺便到他家探访一下，然后回了家。

I dropped in at her house and then went home

 (译成英语并列句，用and then表示“然后”的概念。)

2. 他读了一个小时的书，便去睡了。

He read for an hour and went to bed. 

 (译成英语并列句，用and表示连贯的关系。)

    递进关系

    汉语表示递进关系的常用关联词有：不但…而H、不仅…还，等等。翻译时对应的词语有：not only…(but) also、as well等等。

1. 在太阳系中，不但行星，而且太阳本身也在不断运动。

    In the Solar system the planets as well as the sun itself are in constant motion. 

    (译成英语简单句，用as well as表示“不但…而且”这一递进关系。)

    2. 这些新建的住宅小区不仅有商业网点，还有学校和幼儿园。

    In these new residential areas there are not only commercial networks，but also schools and kindergartens. 

    (译成英语there be结构，用not only…but also表递进关系。)

   选择关系

    汉语表示选择关系的常用关联词有：或者、不是…就是、与其…不如，等等。翻译时相应

的英语词语是：Or、would rather…than、either…Or、better than等等。

    1. 研究人员宁可把这项实验进行下去，也不愿放弃不做。

    Researchers would rather go on with the experiment than give it up. 

    (译成英语并列句，用would rather…than表示“宁可…也不”这…一选择关系。)

    2. 没有外力时，一个物体或保持静止，或继续作等速直线运动。

    In the absence of external force, a body will either remain at rest or continue to move with constant speed in straight line. 

    (译成英语并列句，用either…or表示选择关系。)
